This hikes takes you to Skageflå, a farm situated 250 meters above the beautiful Gieranger fjord. This hike starts a sea level and climbs steeply to the farm, providing breathtaking views along the way of the fjord and the farm. This hike is a highlight of any visit to Norway.

To start this hike, one must take a tour boat from the village of Geiranger or rent a kayak to reach Skagehola, the docking spot for the hike. If you use a kayak, make sure to secure it to prevent it from floating away during high tide.

From Skagehola, follow the narrow but clear trail that climbs and climbs to the Skageflå farm. The trail is very steep with a gain in altitude of 250 meters in about 500 meters of distance. Some sections have rails for safety when the trail follows a cliff. Most of the trail has rocks placed as a way as to create a rough stairway. The hike takes about a half-hour depending on one’s ability.

Once the farm is reached, take in sweeping views of Gieranger. The view of the Seven Sisters Waterfall is incredible. Take time to explore farm buildings, relax, and enjoy a snack.

When it is time to leave Skageflå, there are two options. One can return to Skagehola and get picked up by the next boat. Alternatively, one can continue the hike from Skageflå uphill toward the Homlongsetra Farm (which is 544 meters above sea level) and back to the village of Geiranger. This hike provides more fantastic views of the Geiranger fjord. This hike is steep in places and takes about 4 hours.
