The Goni Canyon Preservation Trail is a short, wide gravel path in the middle of a neighborhood near the sage covered flats near the base of the adjacent mountains.

The 19 acre area was donated by William and Louise Goni in an effort to preserve open space in this neighborhood of Carson City. The trail was built and is maintained and provides a small open area welcoming to visitors within this neighborhood near the base of the Virginia Range. With a gradual slope, the trail provides an easy hike with views of the mountains surrounding the city.

The trail is made up of three loops - the South Loop is a half mile is circumference, with the Middle and North loops each being a quarter mile. Hiking the entire length is just over one mile in distance. Along the way, several benches offer hikers a chance to take a seat and take in the views.

Hikers should be aware that there is no shade and no water at the trail. There is a very small parking area along Goni Rd on the south side with one parking space and one designated handicap space.

Those looking for a 'wild' feel may need to venture further away from this trail which is set in the center of a residential area with truck travel back and forth into the canyon. However the trail marks a great example of conserving open space and making it available to all in a quickly developing region.
