The Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden is a lovely place to spend an afternoon. It is located just north of Reno, next to Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. The arboretum contains both native and non-native species, including many trees.

The Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden was established in 1983, and contains 4,000 plant species covering 23 acres.

Be sure to pick up a brochure when you visit, as the trails criss cross throughout the arboretum and it can be tricky to know where to head without a map! With that said, there are many different garden and grove areas throughout the arboretum and even just wandering through aimlessly is enjoyable.

During the spring and summer months you’ll enjoy many flowers blooming, and during the fall many of the trees are changing color making for a beautiful sight.

There is also a museum on sight, and next door Rancho San Rafael Park offers plenty more space to enjoy an afternoon in the park.
