The Archie Briggs Canyon Trail provides the quickest access to Archie Briggs Canyon Natural Area. This scenic area offers stunning views of the Deschutes River as it bends through a rugged canyon with volcanic rock walls. Prominent Cascade peaks are also visible in the distance.

The trail officially begins from Northwest Overlook Drive, but unless you like walking uncomfortably close to people’s homes you won’t miss anything by starting a bit lower at Northwest Panorama Drive.

The trail then descends steadily. You’ll cross Mount Washington Drive, then have no more interruptions for the rest of the trail.

At one point you may notice two separate paths close together. They both lead down to the same place and rejoin, so hike whichever you choose.

The trail bottoms out at the Deschutes River Trail. You can turn left or right for a short stroll to a viewpoint. The views are fantastic and there is a bench to sit and enjoy.

After soaking in the views return the way you came. The trail out is a steady climb, so make sure to save a bit of water.
