The Oregon Vortex Mystery House is a family-friendly roadside museum attraction based around the story of the discovery of the area's strange physical effects resulting from its location at a 'vortex'.
Built in the 1930's, the attraction is one of the rare active remaining roadside americana type destinations in the area. Visitors are led on a guided tour throughout the grounds, with guides demonstrating and encouraging participation in several examples of strange effects resulting from the vortex. These include gravity working backwards, visitors' height changing in relation to one another, and objects being able to stand upright defying gravity. Throughout tours, guides offer a 'scientific' explanation of the reasons why the Mystery House is uniquely affected by the vortex.
Tours follow a course through the forest, with some climbing involved. The path is pretty easy and is open to nearly all ability levels. Guides make a point of involving children and encouraging tour members to participate. The location lies along Sardine Creek just uphill from the small town of Gold Hill.
