At the top of Picture Rock Pass on Highway 31 between La Pine and Lakeview, visitors can find a few rocks with Native American Petroglyphs if they’re willing to take a quick stroll and search.

Find a safe place to park off the highway, and look for the user trail on the west side. This trail will take you amongst the basalt rock that covers the area. Keep an eye open for the main large rock that is relatively easy to spot if in the correct area.

The petroglyphs on this boulder were carved an estimated 7,500 to 12,000 years ago by Native Americans. Please help preserve and protect the rock art by not vandalizing the area or touching the petroglyphs.
