Rosary Lakes to Maiden Lake

Located south of Bend, Oregon, Rosary Lakes to Maiden Lake is a 20-mile out-and-back route in Deschutes National Forest. There are several tree-lined lakes along this route, which follows singletrack trails through densely forested terrain. This route is accessible year-round and can be completed as a long day hike or as an overnight camping trip. 

The trailhead for the Rosary Lakes Trail is easy to access and located near Willamette Pass. From the Rosary Lakes Trailhead, follow the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) north towards the Rosary Lakes. You will reach Lower Rosary Lake within approximately 2.7 miles, followed by Middle Rosary Lake and Upper Rosary Lake. 

You will reach the Maiden Lake Trail junction around mile 4.7. Turn right here and follow the trail east all the way to the Maiden Lake Trailhead. Your turnaround point is the Maiden Lake Trailhead. Return to your starting point by retracing your steps. 

It's a great route through pleasant forest with plenty of opportunities for backpacking, hiking, trail running, swimming, and camping.

WHEN TO GO

August through November are the best months for hiking on these trails. The season for snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing runs from December through March. 

CONSIDERATIONS

• Bicycles are allowed on Maiden Lake Trail, however, they are not allowed on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). 

ALTERNATE ROUTE

If you want to shorten the distance, consider a point-to-point route. Two cars or a shuttle would be needed for this. Both Rosary Lakes and Maiden Lake Trailheads have parking.
