This wonderful viewpoint is located right off Cascade Lakes Highway, and only requires a short stroll to access. There are informative plaques telling of the unique history and geology of the area in addition to the stellar view.

The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway is a 66 mile stretch of road that has been selected as one of the nation’s ten most important byways.

From this viewpoint you’ll have an open view toward the northwest flank of Newberry Volcano. An informative plaque shows several things to look for, including the Lava Butte Lava Flow. This black lava flow poured out about 7,000 years ago.

As you continue driving along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway you’ll enjoy more views like this of the rugged and beautiful volcanic landscape of the Central Oregon Cascades.
