Sunset Hill + Cinder Cone Natural Area is a small area with short trails leading to a scenic 360 degree view. To access the area, you can park and find the trail either off Southwest River Rim Drive, or Southwest Headwaters Loop.

Sunset Hill is tucked away within a residential neighborhood. The eastern half of the cinder cone is where the trail is, while the western half is privately owned and is very well marked with no trespassing signs.

The wide gravel trail turns to dirt as you climb to the top of Sunset Hill.

At the summit you’ll find a marker and fantastic 360 degree views. You’ll be able to see many prominent Cascade Mountain peaks including Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, The Three Sisters and Mt. Jefferson. Pilot Butte is also visible.

Once you’ve enjoyed the vista, head down the trail and return the way you came back to your vehicle.
