The Bob’s Cove to Picnic Point Track is a short hike located near Queenstown, Otago. This trail travels near the lakeshore and up to a panoramic viewing area. This hike is 2.2 miles long and gains 259 feet of elevation.
This hike starts from a parking area off of Glenorchy Queenstown Rd. Begin hiking west on Bob’s Cove Track. You will be traveling slightly downhill through a forest. After 0.1 miles, you will come to a junction and go left to stay on the trail. Another 0.3 miles will bring you to a junction. Stay right here. You will now be traveling along the shore of Bob’s Cove. You will have periodic views of the water. After another 0.2 miles, you will pass the ruins of a limestone kiln. Continue on the trail.
After 0.3 miles, you will come to a junction and head right. You will now be hiking uphill. The trail can be steep here. After 0.4 miles, you will come to a panoramic viewpoint. You will be able to see the strip of land with Bob’s Cove on one side and the rest of Lake Wakatipu on the other side. You will also see mountains on the other side of the lake. Continue on the trail. Now you will be hiking downhill. 0.1 miles will bring you to a junction. Go left here and right at the junction that follows shortly after. Hike along Bob’s Cove once again. After 0.6 miles, you will reach a junction and go right. Follow this trail back to the parking area.
The Bob’s Cove to Picnic Point Track is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail but they must be on a leash.
