Yumaque Beach

Playa Yumaque is one of the wider beaches in Paracas National Reserve, and it allows camping (not every beach does). It's a swath of white sand between bright red cliffs with views across the bay to distant, craggy shores. Whether staying the night or just pausing for a photo, this beach is a worthwhile stop along the paved loop inside the reserve.

Swimming is not very popular here, perhaps due to submerged rocks and the presence of jellyfish. Best to check with the locals before getting in the water. Residents of Paracas enjoy fishing and lounging on the sand here, but crowds are rare. If you camp, you're almost guaranteed to enjoy a lot of space to yourself, with only the sounds of the waves. Camping requires a separate permit and small fee, which can be arranged at the park entrance station.

Vehicles are allowed on the beach, which is great for car campers, but not so great if you seek a more backcountry experience. Luckily, there is room to spread out. Facilities include trash bins on the beach and a restroom facility near the parking area. Drinking water is not available. On summer weekends, shops in small booths sell snacks and water. Note that Paracas can have very strong winds, so be sure to secure your camp at all times of day. It is not always windy, however, but you never know when the calm will end.

There are a number of impressive overlooks above Yumaque Beach and just off the road nearby. Take the opportunity to hike around and find different perspectives on the colorful hills and sea cliffs that surround.
