The hike up Gross Aubrig is a short day hike close to Zurich with great views. The hike leaves from the small village of Innerthal, which can be easily reached by car or bus. You can take the bus from Siebnen-Wangen to Innerthal, Staumauer, or one stop farther to the village (Innerthal, Post).

From Innerthal, head right (counterclockwise) around the Wägitalersee. You will cross two bridges and soon reach a small hut with lots of yellow hiking signs. Continue another 0.5 miles until you reach another set of yellow signs, and follow the sign up the hill toward Sattelegg and Euthal. The trail passes along a few farms, through both fields and forests. You'll pass Eggstofel 1.6 miles after turning up the hill, and you can refill water in the trough if you need to. There are lots of cows here in the summer, and they are usually friendly!

After another 0.4 miles you will reach a signpost. Continue straightish left along the slope toward Nüssen. Soon you reach another junction with great views to the west. Here you turn right and head up toward Nüssen again, up the hill. After descending you will meet another sign. Here you continue straight and along the fence (cross to the right/east side of the fence) and continue up toward Gross Aubrig.

At this point the trail is a bit hard to follow, but you will see the peak in front of you, and you just need to head toward the peak. The trail is steep and rocky up to the summit. At the summit there are great views of Bockmattlistock, Fluebrig, and other surrounding summits. From the summit, the trail heads down to a small farm hut, turns right, and switchbacks down to another larger farmhouse. From there the trail heads down past a few small streams and down to the road in Innerthal.

The loop can be done either direction. For more information and maps, check out Switzerland Mobility.
