The beautiful peaks of the southern Sawtooth National Forest holds a slew of photographic opportunities for anyone visiting the Sun Valley area. The endless network of trails in and outside of town provides incredible access to these sights.

The Galena Lodge

The drive up to this area, which is just 30 minutes north of Ketchum, will have you pulling over to grab a few cell phone shots of the stunning scenery before you even arrive. The snowshoeing and cross-country skiing along the dozens of miles worth of trails around the Nordic center provide some amazing vistas. Gladiator Peak and Galena Peak sit in the distance, and you are sure to get some great shots of your pups that can enjoy the day with you. Take it to the next level by staying at one of the four yurts and experience a few quiet nights in the mountains.

Sun Valley Heli Ski

Without a doubt, the ultimate dream of every avid skier is to be whisked to the top of a snow-covered mountain by a helicopter and dropped into the best untracked powder of their lives. This dream might be more of a possibility than you think with Sun Valley Heli Ski. With the largest accessible terrain in North America and even a lodge that is only accessible by helicopter, this is truly an adventure of a lifetime. And even if you don't ski, Sun Valley Heli Ski is a great choice for scenic tours of this incredible terrain.

North Fork Snowshoe

This fun winter hike along the North Fork of the Wood River is an easy way to get some beautiful snowscapes just 10 minutes from town. The marked trail takes you along open meadows and tight wooded areas, and you'll have the chance to see moose, elk and birds of prey. Several parts of the trail hug the river, and rolling, snow-covered mountains sit in the distance. It's gorgeous, and it can be done by just about anyone with the right gear.
