Lake with electric blue and turquoise waters? Check. Scenic mountain backdrop? Check. Swimming beaches? Check. Count us in.

With its strong Sierra sun, enticing shoreline and stunning natural beauty, Lake Tahoe just may embody the perfect locale for a summer mountain getaway. Whether you're looking for a picturesque beach from which to take a swim or paddle, a secluded cove for some clothing optional bathing or a panoramic trail that is sure to get the heart rate going, Lake Tahoe has you covered this summer. Just don't forget to pack the sunscreen, as 6,200 feet is the lowest elevation you'll see. In case you are in need of some suggestions, here's a list of a few summertime spots you won't want to miss.

  1.  D.L. Bliss State Park. Idyllic sandy beaches, good SUP/small boat access, lakeside campground, perfect for kids, Rubicon Trail.
  2. Emerald Bay State Park. Vikingsholm, sandy beaches, boat-in camping, family-friendly, another trailhead for Rubicon Trail.
  3. Rubicon Trail. Superb cliff and lakeside trail running between D.L. Bliss and Emerald Bay State Parks.
  4. Mount Tallac Summer Trail. Tallest peak surrounding Lake Tahoe. Views, views, views.
  5. Eagle Lake. Hike past falls and rugged granite scenery to a picturesque glacial basin lake. Good for swimming.
  6. Five Lakes Trail. Lake-laden trail away from crowds near Alpine Meadows Ski Resort.
  7. Truckee River Float. Self-guided river float between Tahoe City and Alpine Meadows. Great way to cool off.
  8. Secret Cove + Chimney Beach Loop. Hike-in beaches, clothing optional cove, idyllic tourquise waters.
  9. Stateline Fire Lookout. Short hike to one of Lake Tahoe's best Panorama's on the northshore.
  10. Tamarack Peak Loop. Scenic and relatively flat loop hike along the Tahoe Rim that includes a waterfall and big vistas.

Please be responsible and practice Leave No Trace principles when out and about so everyone can enjoy these beautiful natural places.
