When locals in Sedona are asked about their favorite hikes in the area, Doe Mountain and Devils Bridge are often mentioned, as is this spectacular hike up the Broken Arrow Trail to Chicken Point. Like many of the great Sedona hikes, this trailhead is very close to the center of Sedona, and it is surprising how remote this hike feels even though it is such a short drive from all the amenities that Sedona has to offer.

From the the fairly cramped trailhead parking area (which doubles as an all-terrain vehicle staging area), the trail crosses the jeep road that parallels the hiking trail in some places. Although the jeep trail is popular with individuals and the ubiquitous Pink Jeep tour company, there are only a few spots where the human and jeep trails approach each other. This easy-to-follow trail climbs fairly steadily, and after the first half-mile or so much of the trail is on slickrock with rock cairns marking the way. The views back to the north and east are spectacular. Eventually the trail rounds the left shoulder of a high rock formation and comes out on Chicken Point.

From the wide, rounded overlook on Chicken Point, the view to the west is wonderful with several rows of hills visible for miles. Chicken Point is also a destination for the jeep tours and mountain bikers, so the point can become a bit crowded, but not enough to detract from the great views on this tremendous hike.
