Burro Creek Campground

Nestled in a small canyon by the highway between Las Vegas and Phoenix, Burro Creek Campground makes a great overnight spot for travelers or a retreat from the crowds in the parks nearer the cities. This BLM campground has some upgraded features like potable water and a dump station, flush toilets, a nice desert garden and access to the lovely and surprising Burro Creek.

The campsites are set along a few loop roads with a decent amount of space and privacy between most of them. Many have nice views of the Burro Creek bridge, and all have views of the surrounding hills. The roads and sites are primitive and bumpy, however. From the campground, a few short trails lead down to the wide channel of Burro Creek, which is nearly always just a small stream along the base of the far cliff. The width of the channel and the evidence of water having rounded the river rocks and moved debris along the banks all hint at the creek's ability to swell into a massive stream during flash floods. Lovely views of Burro Creek bridge set against the water of the creek make the trek across the gravel-strewn creek bed worth the effort.

This campground does not take reservations, but its popularity as an overnight stopover means that arriving early pretty much guarantees finding a spot to camp. Cell service is weak to non-existent.
