The Hawes Trail Network is an intermediate ride in northeast Mesa that is known for its exciting twists, turns, and big views. Developed by mountain bikers, these trails offer some excellent singletrack fun without much steep, strenuous climbing. This is an excellent morning ride for cross-country style riders looking for a less rocky trail to cruise around on.

The entire network of trails consist of 11.2 miles of singletrack mountain biking, hiking, or horseback riding. Featured as a network with customizable routes, you can chose to take a variety of different trails to make the loop. Many riders park at the Walgreens about 2.1 miles south on Power Road. There is also a small dirt parking lot just after Power Road turns into Bush Highway that some cars use for parking. This will give you direct access into the Hawes Trail No. 52 and Ridgeline Trail No. 53 trailheads just across the highway from the parking lot.

One of the most spectular features throughout the ride is the view of Red Mountain. Its dark, sooty self projects out of the desert like a hippo surfacing for air. You may find it hard to keep your eye on the trail because of its beauty, but PLEASE do! There are cacti all along the trail, reaching for your ankles, and it won't feel like the slippers you had on this morning if you get knicked.

Some reviews highlight new construction in the area, or even a "crazy" man yelling for people to get off the trails; please don't let this stop you. The trails are there for YOU to ride! It is free public land, created by riders for riders. Get out there and enjoy them!
