McDowell Mountain Regional Park has a very nice family campground, but it is heavily oriented to the RV camper. A great alternative for tent campers is the small camping area distributed throughout the Ironwood picnic area just up the road.

Ironwood is a distributed, rustic picnic area with many tables tucked in among the cacti and brush. Some of these picnic tables are numbered tent-camping sites. There are plenty of parking spaces near all the sites, and there is a restroom and drinking water nearby. Each site has plenty of room for multiple tents, and some have access to more than one picnic table.

The park has over 20 hiking/biking trails. One of the nicer hikes, the short trek up Lousely Hill, leaves right from the camp loop, and access to the North Loop Trail is just short walk away.
