The town of Prescott, Arizona, is a favorite playground and getaway for the population masses of the Phoenix area, especially during the scorching summer months when Prescott is typically about 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Fortunately for campers there are several great campgrounds very close to Prescott, offering the best of both the recreation opportunities of the national forest lands as well as all the activities and services of historic Prescott.
White Spar is the closest campground to town, yet it has the rustic feel of a typical national forest campground. Set in the ponderosa pine woods with several loops, the campsites are generally spacious and fairly private. Paved parking pads, concrete tables and well-graded tent sites are the rule here. Many of the sites can accommodate a large RV or a few cars on long driveways. The exceptions are the sites on the northern loop (sites 33 through 42 and 49 through 53), which only have wide pull-outs along the road and are more suitable for tent campers.
There are some nice trails accessible from the campground, notably the trail to Goldwater Lakes.
