Hot Springs, Arkansas, is one of the hidden treasures in this southern state. From its history of the bathhouses to the national park, this place has so much to offer. While you are there you can stay in the historic Arlington Hotel, which sits right on the edge of the park. In the morning, you can take a mile round-trip hike to the top of the mountain. This trek is on the moderate side, so wear good hiking shoes. Flips flops are not recommended for this journey. At the top of the mountain you can go to top of the viewing tower to get a spectacular view of the area around you. It costs $8 per person to go to the top of the tower, but if you have an America the Beautiful pass this fee is reduced to $5 per person. The trip to the top of the mountain is also accessible by vehicle on a paved road. Once you come back down, make sure to visit the visitor center in the old Buckstaff Bathhouse. While you are there, take the tour to see how life used to be at the bathhouses. It is recommended to visit one the operational bathhouse on Bathhouse Row for a massage or a full day at the spa, which incorporates the hot springs water of this area. This place is full of beauty and full of relaxation. Take time to literally soak it all up before you leave!
