Agate Beach, a part of Duxbury Reef State Marine Reserve, offers both cliff and seaside access in northern Marin County. From the parking area, an ADA-accessible path descends down a path to a bench looking out at the sea and northern cliffs which make up the far southern edge of the Point Reyes National Seashore, while a separate trial climbs a short path up the cliff tops standing over the beach's rocky shore.

Agate Beach has two separate sections of beach. From the bottom of the stairs, those turning to the south will find themselves amongst the tidal life in the rocky tide pool area, which is easily visible at low tides. The stone reef formations jut out into the ocean in parallel lines, with the waves playing across the rocky landscape. Those heading north from the stairs will find a wide sandy shore spreading out at the base of the area's cliffs. The beach makes for an interesting place to head for an afternoon of family-friendly lounging or exploring.

Agate Beach is open daily from sunrise to sunset. A small parking lot usually has sufficient parking for visitors. A couple small interpretive signs, trash cans and outhouse toilets are located beside the parking lot. The nearest amenities are located in the nearby town of Bolinas.
