Big Bend sledding hill is a free sledding area not far off of Interstate 80 in the high Sierra. Unlike many areas that feature one large slope and have a tendency to become crowded, Big Bend's sledding area spreads out over about 90 degrees of the downhill from a large central hill, making it easy to find an area without crowds and providing the opportunity to slide different angles and distances around its slopes.

The sledding area is one hill with large slopes that cascade gently down toward the South Yuba River, though the grade varies from steeper slopes near the top to the lower gentler downhill that is perfect for children. A 65-foot elevation difference between the top of the hill and the bottom end of the sledding area allows riders to go for a good distance before coming to a stop. Just be careful of the numerous snowmen that have been built throughout the area!

Its remote location away from any year-round homes makes it a great and generally uncrowded stopover when driving to or from the mountains. Parking for the sledding area is in the Loch Leven Lakes free parking area, though the parking lot may be closed in times of abundant snow. You may park along the side of Hampshire Rocks Road immediately adjacent to the trailhead parking area. There are no bathrooms, trash cans, or benches available at the sledding hill.
