This beautiful and secluded cove in Palos Verdes, California, is worth the time and effort required to reach the destination. It's a very rocky beach that has gorgeous, deep-blue waters and many tide pools. Depending on the time of year, you can also see wildflowers along the overhanging cliffs.
Many people choose to enjoy these views from atop the cliffs rather than hiking down to the cove because it is a steep and slippery trail, despite it being only a short distance. While at the edge of the Pacific, set aside some time to explore the aquatic life in the tide pools, which are dispersed along the beach and easy to find. At low tide, it is possible to walk along the beach to Palos Verdes Point, where the remains of an old shipwreck are gradually being claimed by the ocean.
The Bluff Cove Trail leading to the beach/cove is an unmarked, short, incredibly steep and slippery hike. This is definitely not for the faint of heart; you have to hold onto a rope and slide backwards down the hill for the majority of the hike. In order to ascend, you must hold onto the rope while walking and sometimes will need to pull yourself along the way as well. For the adventurous, this is all part of the fun.
