The Bradley Hut is one of the Sierra Club's network of backcountry huts located throughout the northern Sierra. The hut is minimal and set to provide adventurers with a great overnight spot to break up a ski or snowshoe trek, or a base from which to explore the area's backcountry terrain and ski bowls.
The two story A-frame building has a central wood stove and provided wood for heat along with a couple of bench-style tables, a streamlined kitchen area, a few lights run on solar energy, and a large flat upstairs floor capable of sleeping around a dozen people.
Reservations are required and can be made only by calling the Clair Tappaan Lodge and advance at 530.426.3632, along with submitting a payment for $20 per person per night. The lodge offers reservations up to capacity, so there's a good possiblity you'll find yourself sharing the space with others.
The bathroom is a two story outhouse located about 40 feet away from the main cabin. The cabin is also stocked with a few board games and some cookware and dishes left by previous visitors.
Access is from the 5-mile long Pole Creek Ski and Snowshoe Trail, which requires about 1,600 feet in climbing to reach, making it one of the harder of the backcountry huts to access, which may work in your favor as far as seeing fewer other visitors throughout the season.
The hut is open for overnight visitors typically from October until May, depending on snow conditions.
A meadow and access to several smaller ski bowls sit immediatley north of the Bradley Hut, while more advanced backcountry skiing on Silver Peak and the Granite Chief Wilderness are also in the accessible vicinity.
