The town of Cayucos is a true beach town, and the state beach is the prime attraction. Where Cayucos Drive meets the ocean there is a large public pier, restroom facilities, a playground, and a long stretch of beautiful beach.  This is a popular surfing spot for locals and visitors alike, and it is one of the few places in California where surfers can make a water entry by jumping off the pier either with or after their boards, avoiding the long paddle out to the breaking waves. It is fun to walk out on the pier and watch the surfers from very close range. The beach is wide and long, and there are lifeguards in the summer. Along the beach are many places to eat, including a very popular smoked fish taco stand that always has a long line.
