Climbers Loop Trail is a short yet steep hike located just 15 minutes from downtown San Diego. As the name suggests, it is a popular trail for climbers due to the many climbing and bouldering opportunities in the area. This is also a great hike for those without any climbing experience. The trail features beautiful, panoramic views of Mission Trails Regional Park and the surrounding communities as well as wildflowers during the spring.
Depending on the availability of parking, the hike may be slightly lengthier than 1.2 miles. Although there is usually parking available along Father Junipero Serra Trail, spaces can fill up quickly on weekends. Hikers may choose to begin from either the southern or the northern trailhead. Starting from the north and completing a clockwise loop is easier since the grade on the way up is less steep. After several switchbacks, hikers are rewarded with picturesque views before descending to complete the loop.
