An hour south of San Francisco and in the midst of the wild and rugged California Coast is a luxurious and eco-friendly resort that offers full lodge rooms, deluxe cabins and tent-bulgalows. The Costanoa Lodge characterizes itself as an “eco-resort,” and there is a lot to back up that claim. Offering access to 30,000 acres of hiking trails, mountain bike rentals, horseback rides, kayak trips, and nearby access to the spectacular Año Nuevo Coastal Marine Reserve, the Costanoa Lodge is truly at the center of a natural wonderland. Año Nuevo is one of only a few locations in North America where the magnificent northern elephant seals live out fascinating chapters of their life cycle only a few feet from human visitors.

The lodge has a full-service bar and grill, a general store, and even a day spa. The main lodge building has a two-room suite and several classes of rooms. There are 12 deluxe cabins with fireplaces and decks, but no private bathrooms--guests use a dedicated upscale comfort station with an outdoor fireplace lounging area. There are also three classes of tent-cabins with electric lights, beds with bedding, and a pair of Adirondack chairs.

Adjacent to the lodge is the co-managed Costanoa KOA, which shares the amenities of the lodge and allows for campers and non-campers to vacation together.

Named for the Ohlone people who inhabited this land before the arrival of the Spanish explorers and missionaries, the lodge lies near the Cabrillo Highway, which follows the old Ohlone footpaths. The lodge is dedicated to providing a comfortable experience of the rugged coast using sustainable materials and resources, including locally-grown organic food from local growers.
