Located within an easy drive of some of the largest ski resorts in Tahoe as well as Truckee and the North Shore, Granite Flat Campground is a great location for those who are eager to explore the many trails and adventures in the area. There are 58 standard, non-electric RV sites and seven tent sites. Though there are few tent sites, they are secluded and very close to the Truckee River.

All seven tent sites are walk-ins, meaning you will need to park a few hundred yards away. The sites that are farthest from the parking area are the recommended spots. While these sites are separated from the main road by a tree line, you will hear occasional traffic at night. However, the proximity of the road is outweighed by the easily accessed river, where you may enjoy fishing or swimming in warm weather. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are both close by, along with the fantastic Five Lakes Trail.

Stayed here July 3-6, 2018, in spot 75. To say "you will hear occasional traffic at night" is a criminal understatement. The road is about 20 yards from the tent sites, and it's a busy highway. The traffic noise was loud and unceasing, day and night. The campsite was lovely otherwise--we had our own grassy beach by the river!-- but the road noise was an absolute dealbreaker. I would never recommend this campground to anyone! If I had to stay in this campground again, I'd choose the site furthest from the road and suffer among the RVs.
