In the heart of the Mojave National Preserve, Hole-in-the-Wall Campground provides visitors a true desert camping experience. Each of the 35 sites is located on an open desert plain surrounded by nearby peaks that change color with each rising and setting sun. The campground feels exposed to all the elements: sun, wind, rain and snow. Temperatures soar during the day and plummet at night. Vegetation is lush: Cacti, desert shrubs and rugged wildflowers cling to the sandy ground.

While this campground is remote, it has everything you need: picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms, garbage service, and a limited water supply. There is a dump station for RVs, but no hookups. Quiet hours run from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., so you won't be listening to generators running all night. Instead, you can relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the dark, desert night. It's an excellent location for stargazing if you bundle up and stay out of the wind!

There are several hiking trails near the campground, including the Rings Loop, Barber Peak Loop and the Hole-in-the-Wall Nature Trail. The information center, located a quarter of a mile away, is open on weekends. There you'll find trail maps and park information even if the center is closed, so it's worth a visit any time.

Due to the remote location of this campground, bring sufficient gas, food, water and firewood for the duration of your stay. There are no stores or gas stations in the preserve. The closest services are in Needles, over an hour's drive away.
