Lake Poway Loop is a moderately hard trail that navigates the perimeter of Lake Poway. The trail may be accessed from either the parking lot of Lake Poway Recreation Area or via a short connecting path from the neighboring Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. Near the junction of these two trails is a primitive campground that is open to equestrians and backpackers alike.

Sections of the trail are very steep with winding switchbacks, but they are interspersed with gentler hills. There are tables, a picnic shelter, and restrooms located alongside the trail. Lake Poway is also a popular fishing destination, and there are several fishing areas just off the path. Hikers often choose Lake Poway Loop Trail as a starting point for lengthier hikes too. The trail intersects with the western end of the famous Mount Woodson Trail to Potato Chip Rock and the Fry-Koegel Trail.
