Morton Peak Lookout is a fire watch tower near CA-38 that overlooks Mill Creek Canyon, Mountain Home Village, and Inland Empire. The tower is accessible via FR 1N12 and 1S13. These roads together comprise the Morton Peak Hike. The tower is periodically staffed by volunteer lookouts who alert the Forest Service whenever smoke rises from the surrounding landscape. This is one of the lower elevation fire towers in San Bernardino National Forest, but its position right on the rim of Mill Creek Canyon provides a commanding view of the highland rim's southern edge.

When the tower is manned, the lookout may invite visitors inside, and the gate at the intersection of 1N12 and 1S13 may be unlocked, allowing vehicle access all the way to the top of Morton Peak. Otherwise the road must be traveled by foot or bicycle to earn the views, which are still impressive even if the tower is closed.

Note: Morton Peak Lookout used to be available for overnight rentals to the public, but this is not currently offered. Call Mill Creek Ranger Station at 909.382.2882 for more information.
