There are many routes that lead to Mount Baldy, among them the Ski Hut Trail and the Devils Backbone Trail. Register Route isn't the most popular way to get there, but it provides an amazing view of the whole area. It is also one of the more difficult routes to the summit. The trail isn't as maintained, but it is easy enough to follow.

The trail starts the same way as Ski Hut Trail, but as soon as you see an old register (hence the name), keep an eye out for the junction because it can be hard to see. It steepens quite rapidly toward the ridge. The trail can be very faded at points, but keep going up. There is a large boulder about 2 miles in, and this is a good indication that you are just about a half mile away from the junction to Devil's Backbone Trail. From the junction, you could follow the Register Ridge Trail straight to Mount Harwood or follow the Devil's Backbone Trail to the summit of Mount Baldy.

All of the hard work will be justified by the beautiful view along the way and the feeling of accomplishment when you reach the summit. From there you can follow the same way back or take any of the other trails down to the trailhead.
