One of two campgrounds in Calaveras Big Trees State Park, North Grove Campground offers camping within close proximity to some of the oldest trees on earth, the giant sequoias of the North Grove. Laid out in a loop orientation surrounding a lower montane meadow, the campground has some sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers (no hookups) and others for cars and tents.

About half of the campground's sites lie on the meadow’s fringe, with the other half set back slightly in the shade of the conifer forest. The campground is fully open May through September, with reduced sites available October through November and March through April. The campground is fully closed December through February.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park offers a variety or recreation opportunities, including hiking trails and fishing on the North Fork of the Stanislaus River. The main draw, of course, is wandering through the groves of the ancient sequoias of the North and South Groves; the campground is a stone’s throw from the North Grove Trail.
