The Old Landing Cove Trail is a 1.5-mile hike leading from the Wilder Ranch parking lot to the Ohlone Bluff Trail in Wilder Ranch State Park. This can be taken as a there-and-back trail, or hikers can continue hiking Ohlone Bluff further down the coastline. Wilder Ranch property borders many different farmlands, so most of the trails cut around these plots.

This trail is fairly level with very minimal changes in elevation. After this dirt trail crosses a railroad track it continues through chaparral and coastal shrubs and eventually leads to rocky cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean. From here pelicans, cormorants, and seagulls are a common sight. If you catch it on the right day, you might even see some migrating whales.

As you continue down the coastline you will reach small beaches that have formed between the huge outcrops that stick out into the ocean. Feel free to relax and catch some sun at any one of these beach locations. Once you hit the Ohlone Bluff Trail marker, the trail turns back toward the parking lot for an easy end to the hike.

If you wish to continue along the coastline you can either cross the beach at this point (closed at high tide) or continue up the trail where it will loop around this point and continue on. Once you pass the railroad tracks, its just a short walk back to the parking lot.

In between rain showers in early December. Lots of green, mushrooms in bloom, and quails roaming through the bushes.

Recent rain has really brought out the colors at Wilder Ranch. Vibrant green grass and wildflowers everywhere!
