The simple but newly renovated Owl Canyon Campground is a beautiful place for minimalists to enjoy a night or two sleeping out under the big sky. Located just a half hour away from the nearest city, you'll feel worlds away in this secluded BLM campground.

Each of the 30 campsites provides space for RV or tent campers, including a picnic table, sun shade, fire pit, grill, and panoramic views of the Rainbow Basin. The sites are spread out among three main loops, each with its own playground and pit toilet. There is potable water at the campground, but it is limited, so arrive prepared with your own water supply. Pack in any firewood you'll need, too.

Nearby activities include the Rainbow Basin Scenic Drive and Owl Canyon Hike. The trailhead for Owl Canyon is located right in the campground. Opportunities for off-trail hiking and photography are endless. Practice Leave No Trace principles in this fragile desert environment. Collecting fossils is prohibited, so take a photo and leave what you find for the next visitor to discover.

At only $6 a night, this campground is a real gem. It is best enjoyed in spring and fall when the temperatures are a bit more moderate. Summer can be extremely hot, dry and exposed. Winter can bring snow and frigid conditions. But if you're prepared, Owl Canyon Campground can be just the right place to visit any time of year.
