Patrick's Point is the viewpoint for which Patrick's Point State Park is named. Just a few hundred feet from the parking area takes visitors out to the point where great views of Rocky Point, Wedding Rock, and the Pacific Ocean can be seen. Multiple sea stacks also dot the ocean offshore, the only remainders of once larger geological formations.
From the parking lot the trail passes through the lush forests found all over the park. Several patches of towering ferns hang over the trail, and during summer months wildflowers bloom just above the ground. Just before emerging to the point visitors will pass under a thick canopy formed from trees on either side of the trail. Once on the point, a wooden railing protects visitors from the vertical cliff beyond. A bench, tucked away in the shade, gives anyone the opportunity to relax and enjoy the view and company of friend.
There are conflicting stories regarding how the park obtained its name, but the dominant story follows an Irish homesteader named Patrick Beegan. Beegan was the first to claim the land in 1851 after supposedly finding a native potato nearby.
