Porcupine Flat can be a welcome relief from some of the more densely designed and frequently visited campgrounds in Yosemite National Park. Located just off of Tioga Pass Road/Highway 120 and stretched out in a flat off of Porcupine Creek, this campground is an inexpensive option for those looking for convenient access to incredible scenery as well. Visitors are close to Tuolumne Meadows, Olmsted Point, and Tenaya Lake in addition to miles of incredible trails linking Yosemite Valley and Clouds Rest, as closer vicinity options such as May Lakes and Mount Hoffman

All 52 sites in Porcupine Flat are first-come, first-served, which means your best chances of finding that perfect spot happen before mid-morning, but the campground still often has open sites. RVs up to 24 feet can be accommodated, and there are no hookups or dump stations. Sites 15, 16, 17, and 33 are ADA-accessible.

The main trade-offs for this lower traffic and incredible access have to do with campground conveniences. Contrary to other online information, there is no potable water at Porcupine Flat, so you'll have to bring your own water. Further, while other nearby campgrounds have restrooms, Porcupine Flat uses vault toilets. If these are small inconveniences for you, then the slower, quieter pace at Porcupine Campground can be a real plus. The store and cafe at White Wolf are a short drive away (open during summer), and Toulumne Meadows is slightly farther.

Porcupine Flat Campground is typically open from July through mid-October.
