Portuguese Joe Campground is a minimalist campground adjacent to the town of Lone Pine that offers campers a low cost, no frills spot to lay down at for the night.

Lying beside the Los Angeles Aqueduct, Portuguese Joe Campground is made up of 22 sites along a single dirt loop road. Sites all sit immediately next to one another, with no privacy. However owing to the minimalist nature of the campground, the campground is often well below capacity and campers can head to spots with a little bit of distance between the next campers.

All sites have a picnic table and a fire ring. A small creek flows through the center of the campground, with trees running along the creek providing shade for campers. Otherwise, sites are exposed and have views of the beautiful Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains that dominate the landscape lying to the west.

Sites are reservable on the Reserve America website, otherwise a pay station stands beside the site info board, where campers can pay onsite. Operated by Inyo County Parks & Recreation, the campground also has a single table designated for day use for those just looking to stretch out or sit down for a picnic. Septic cleaning is available for a small fee by a mobile service whose contact info is posted on the info board. The campground has a single spigot for water and a vault toilet that serve all sites.
