Redwood Creek Beach is a great spot to stroll along the beach, especially after a long drive. The beach extends over a mile along the highway and can be accessed at several other points. A large picnic structure with several tables provides shelter from the sun or rain while enjoying a meal. Walking north along the pebble sprinkled sands will take visitors to the mouth of Redwood Creek and past the Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center. At this center travelers can obtain information, acquire permits, and buy souvenirs related to the Redwood National and State Parks.
This beach is named after the 62-mile Redwood Creek which flows into the ocean to the north. The headwaters begin at 4,400 feet in the Northern California Coastal Range and flow through Redwood National Park and many coastal redwood groves. The famous Tall Trees Grove lies in the center of a bend in this creek, and many trails in Redwood National Park wind along its edge. Just before meeting the ocean the creek passes through the small coastal town of Orick.
