Rock Creek Campground is one of three campgrounds located within Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area (SRA), known as the “gateway to the tall trees country." Open year round, Rock Creek is popular with anglers looking to land fall and winter steelhead and salmon that migrate up the adjacent South Fork Eel River. During warmer months the campground provides a pleasant shaded homebase to access the nearby swimming holes and hiking trails that explore Standish-Hickey’s virgin coast redwood groves.

Thirty-five sites accommodate RVs up to 27 feet and trailers up to 24 feet (although there are no hookups), and there is one hiker/biker camp. Restrooms with showers and flushing toilets are provided. All sites are shaded amongst mixed forest. A basic grocery store is located nearby, across US-101 from the SRA.

Two miles of the river flow through the SRA, and accessing it’s waters is a short walk down the hill. Note that seasonal bridges are installed during summer’s low flow; during winter and spring runoff crossing the river can be dangerous.

Dogs on leash are permitted in the campground. If visiting Standish-Hickey SRA during the summer months check to see if seasonal Redwood Campground, located closer to the river under a grove of redwoods, is open.
