The 12,700-acre San Luis Reservoir is used to collect and distribute water to the local farms and homes in Central California. The nearby O'Neill Forebay feeds the reservoir with the water returning via a hydroelectric dam. The San Luis Creek Campground is located along the O'Neill Forebay shoreline, and it offers 53 RV/tent sites and two group sites. This campground is one of four campgrounds inside the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area.

All 53 camp sites have power, water, picnic tables, and fire rings, and a few can accommodate trailers up to 30 feet long. Some of the sites are located within a stone's throw of the water, while others are backed by an open meadow. Either way, most of the sites are more than generous with the space they provide. All sites have some trees, but in general the campground lacks shade. A 5-mile walking trail cuts through the campground and ends at the North Beach Day Use Area.

The campground is divided into two loops, each with its own vault toilet. All camping parties are assigned a specific campsite unless you have reserved one ahead of time. The temperature on the east side of the Diablo Mountains can get pretty hot and windy, so be sure to check the weather conditions before you head out.
