San Pedro Valley County Park boasts an amazing and diverse ecosystem laced with hiking trails for all abilities. At the valley floor, oak and eucalyptus trees shade picnic areas and hikers on their way up the formidable Montara Mountain. As the trails gain elevation, chaparral hillsides give way to stunning views of the Pacific and valley below.

The San Pedro Valley was once home to the Ohlone Indian village of Pruristac. Artifacts from the Ohlone and the valley’s human history following the 1769 arrival of Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portola are on display at the nearby Sanchez Adobe.

A short, self-guided tour along the ADA-accessible Plaskon Nature Trail informs visitors of the unique plant and animal life in the San Pedro Valley. Black-tailed deer, hawks and brush rabbits are commonly seen inside the park’s 1,150 acres. The fresh waters of San Pedro Creek provide a spawning area for the struggling steelhead trout population from December to February. Hunting and fishing are prohibited in San Pedro Valley County Park.

Beginners looking for modest hikes under 2 miles will enjoy Old Trout Farm Loop Trail, Weiler Ranch Road, and Valley View Trail. Hikers and trail runners looking for more advanced terrain will find Montara Mountain, Hazelnut, and Brooks Creek Trails genuinely challenging.

Group picnic areas are open for reservations in addition to areas allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Restrooms, barbecues, and potable water are available at the picnic areas.

Overnight camping is only permitted for registered nonprofit youth groups. Dogs are not allowed anywhere in the park.
