Scodie Mountain

Scodie Mountain is the high point of a small range at the south eastern end of Sierra Nevada. Although it is listed in the Hundred Peaks Section, Scodie Mountain doesn't see a lot of visitors. 

There are two ways to start this trail. From the side of Highway 178 from Walker's Pass going southwest, or from Walker's Pass Campground just a mile down the road. There is limited parking at the campground. 

The trail starts on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), weaving around Joshua trees. About 5 miles in, it's time to go off the main trail toward the summit. The junction is pretty easy to miss since there isn't any landmark to know where to turn so make sure to have a map with you. Once leaving the trail, head east toward the false summit (Peak 7042). The bushwhacking part isn't bad -- there's a faint foot path around thick bushes but some of the footsteps might mislead you to overgrown sections.

From Peak 7042 the terrain is pretty flat, but it's still about 1.5 miles toward the summit. The trail's grade descends once more, then ascends toward the summit of Scodie Mountain. The path levels out near the summit, and after a short scramble you will find the register box. The register box is inside a lunch box.

From the summit you can see Owens Peak, Mount Jenkins, and Mount Morris on the other side of the PCT. Once you're ready to head back, follow the same path you took up, meeting up with the PCT, and back to the trailhead.
