Though there is no watery "cove" as one may think in the sense of a lake or ocean, Shady Cove is indeed shady, and it is very pleasant for many reasons. Situated at approximately 6,000 feet in the San Bernardino high country, its tall pine trees and breezy mountain air keep the campground bearable in summer and cool during spring and fall. It offers amenities of vault toilets, drinking water, trash cans, and picnic tables.

As group sites, Shady Cove is available by reservation only. It is typically used by school, summer camp, and family groups visiting the Children's Forest and nearby destinations for hiking, biking, and rock climbing. The campground has only three sites (A, B, and C), but each can accommodate up to 30 people and eight vehicles. Site A is ADA accessible.

Note: Shady Cove Group Campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-October.
