The Peterson Memorial Trail and connected Simpson Reed Grove Trail within the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park provide easy and relaxing access to enormous, 2,000-year-old redwood trees. These trails cover only a tiny fraction of the 10,000 acres of primeval redwood groves that are protected by the state park, but they are easy to access from the highway for those making a quick pass on their way to or from the coast. In addition to the redwoods you'll see along this trail, you’ll also find an undergrowth of azaleas, rhododendrons and ferns. Free tours are provided at the times noted on a sign at the trailhead.
