Stream Trail, located within Redwood Regional Park, is a perfect hike for those who want to experience the grandeur of the redwoods without a lengthy drive from the Bay Area. With only slight elevation change and facilities such as restrooms, picnic tables, and a playground along the way, it is one of the more family-friendly treks in the region.

Hikers may choose from two entrances to Redwood Regional Park. Canyon Meadow Staging Area is situated at the eastern end of the park and is more convenient for those coming from the East Bay. At the western side, Skyline Gate Staging Area is more convenient for those visiting from downtown San Francisco and Oakland.

Starting from Canyon Meadow, the trail follows a paved path through meadows and groves of redwoods. Along this stretch, there are several opportunities to break for a picnic or to observe the wild turkeys and quail that frequent this zone. After one mile, at a point marked "Trail’s End," the paved portion of the route gives way to a dirt path. From here the trail winds through immense old-growth redwoods as it follows beside Redwood Creek. Along the way are several opportunities to branch off the beaten path and better explore the groves of redwoods through a network of short loop trails. The last stretch to Skyline Gate Staging Area involves a somewhat steep climb up a hillside in order to reach the parking lot. Hikers who want more of a challenge may opt to loop back via West Ridge Trail, French Trail, or Bridle Trail. However, heading back the same way you came via Stream Trail requires the shortest distance and the least elevation change.
