One of the least visited and least traveled colored buttes in the Mount Shasta region, Yellow Butte is a hidden gem in a valley of great hikes. With basically no one ever climbing the butte, you are offered a chance to ditch the more frequently traveled areas and to enjoy one of the best views of Mount Shasta and the Shasta Valley. To the north the valley stretches to the Oregon border, to the south the gorgeous Mount Shasta, to the west the Trinity Divide and the Mount Eddy range, and to the east the northern regions of the cascades and sheep rock. This short climb is very well worth the time to make the 600-foot climb. The ideal time would be a sunset hike as it would be a bit cooler and offer amazing views for a sunset. Wildflowers also abound as you climb the old forest road. The views make this little-used trail something that should be on everyone's list when visiting the Mount Shasta region!
