The Yellow Trail is one of five cross-country and snowshoe trails that take you through Sugar Pine Point State Park. Beginning at the western parking lot, the Yellow Trail loops to cover the northeastern side of the park. Yellow diamonds attached to the trunks of pine trees mark the path through this beautiful state park. The trail is a fairly level 2 miles with minimal elevation change. This is an ideal trail if you are new to snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

From the parking lot, head north starting from the trail map sign. The path runs adjacent to the park pump house and eventually splits to form a loop. Heading east at the loop intersection takes you near the water's edge of Lake Tahoe. The west route delves further into the pine forest coming in close proximity to Highway 89.

All winter trails at Sugar Pine Point are available for cross-country skiing, as well, and the park asks that snowshoers give skiers right-of-way and avoid walking in the established ski tracks. If you plan on exploring more of Sugar Pine, check out the Orange, Blue, Red and Green trails. Red and Green follow the path of the 1960 Winter Olympic Biathlon and definitely make a worthwhile hike.
