Cutting through agricultural farmland, the route to Zmudowski ("zhmud-OF-ski") State Beach is just a short drive off CA-1 via Gibson Road, which is a little rough in spots. This beach is ideal if you are looking for some seclusion. The beach is adjacent to the Pajaro River Estuary, a natural reserve that can be seen from the parking lot. With nearly 2 miles of shoreline, equestrians can enjoy this sandy, open beach as long as they keep close the the shoreline. This beach is often littered with sea vegetation, which is normal for this area.

With a variety of over a dozen types of fish to catch, Zmudowski is an ideal spot if you are looking to throw your line in the water. Birds and sea wildlife like to feed here as well, so the chances of catching a glimpse of dolphins, gray whales, or sea lions are quite high. Flocks of long billed curlews are quite abundant.

The fog can roll in or out at any moment, so be prepared and bring layers of optional clothing. Due to strong rip currents, it is swimming, wading, and water sports are not recommended.
