When it comes to waterfalls in Telluride, two immediately jump to mind. Overshadowed in size and spectacle by Bridal Veil Falls, Cornet Creek Falls is easily forgotten in the shadow of its bigger brother just outside of town. For hikers looking for a quiet corner, somewhere less than five minutes away from town, a place they can sit with a lunch they picked up on Colorado Avenue, Cornet Creek Falls is a great place to go.

Located at the end of a quarter-mile spur that starts at the Jud Wiebe Trailhead, the falls are tucked into a tight canyon on the north side of Telluride. A short hike will range uphill amid red stone boulders and aspen to the 80-foot cascade. The trail ascends loose soil in places, so be prepared to scramble.

Parking is available near the Jud Wiebe Trailhead, but be forewarned that during tourist season, parking in Telluride is nearly impossible. There are numerous solutions to this problem. Park outside of town and walk in along the Valley Floor Trail, or park in Mountain Village and ride the free, year-round gondola.
